I have a sewing desk with drawers.
Any threads that have been opened/used are stored in it.
Left drawer has polyesters. Right drawer has cottons
Bobbins with thread are attached to the matching spool with a bobbin buddy or a those hairpin" style joiner.
My thread stash of unused spools are in a set of shallow wooden drawers, just deep enough to hold the spools on their sides. Makes for easy to see the colours of what are there.
Each drawer holds a different brand/type of thread.
