What is confusing me is after you sew 9 strips(21/2 inch) together they measure 20.5 inches. Instructions read to place ruler at 22 inch mark a cut wedge. I don't have 22 inches.
Remember you have a open space for the tree trunk. That accounts for the extra length you need, right?
Or, use a 1/8" seam allowance. Some patterns call for it with this type of piecing.
