I was thinking about this today. I think you "should" do what you want with it. Forget the Home Ec teacher. It was 1961. She was a teacher. It doesn't mean she knew everything or that you still have to live by her rules. I had a woman tell me a long time ago to quit "shoulding" myself. It doesn't matter what someone for your far away past thinks. They aren't a god, just another person. Use your own judgement. If you like the quilt that way it's made from the kit, do it that way. You can always do it again and "tweak" it to your own liking. If your Home Ec teacher doesn't like it, you can thumb your nose at her. You're an adult now. You can do that
