It does take much longer than I would have thought. I’m using the fabric-like wss vilene but there are many brands. I’m doing some mats and coasters using 2 layers of WSS. Warm water is a must. I gave up and just ran it all thru the quick wash delicate cycle because the soaking was taking forever. That worked great and if it’s a coaster or mat I dry it flat on a towel instead of the dryer. They’re gifts so I want them to look perfect when I hand them over. If it was for me I’d have tossed them in the dryer.
