It all depends on what effect you want the D9P to have after you chop it all up.
Usually a red block is the focus, so you would want that in the middle so it gets cut up into the four little squares.
In the link shown she uses a black middle square. It should be something that gets your attention, and not a large print.
I used a bright yellow in mine, and then when I did the Double Disappearing 9-Patch, I used another yellow of just a little different shade.
