Default Beatles Yellow Submarine - 5,796 half inch squares

Just finished this wall hanging for my husband. It was inspired by a counted cross stitch pattern and is comprised of 5,796 half inch squares. Finished size is approximately 35" x 46". It took me approximately 5 months ... mostly just working on it on the weekends with a few smaller projects mixed in here and there to alleviate the monotony of all of those teeny tiny squares.

This was a collaboration of sorts:
1) I found the cross stitch pattern
2) Hubby tweaked the pattern, drew it out on graph paper and colored it in the way he wanted it
3) We selected the fabric together (batiks). He selected the binding colors based on what fabric was left over when the quilt was finished.
4) I did all of the cutting
5) I did all of the piecing and consulted with him a few times on additional design decisions (i.e. The Beatles applique, peace symbol, etc.)

As far as the black outlining - I did that initially by hand using Perle Cotton and a basic back stitch before the quilt was sandwiched. After it was sandwiched I struggled with how to quilt it without interfering with the Yellow Submarine itself . I ended up using mono poly thread and machine stitched on top of all of the black outlines. So Happy with this decision.

5) I did the quilting design on 3/4 of the quilt and then handed it over to him to mark up the quilting design in the upper right hand corner.

6) I did the quilting
