Maybe another option would be flannel. Definitely would have to pre wash. I have made quilts with flannel as batting because they come out thinner and in CA, it's perfect. My aunt always uses flannel in the middle of her quilts also. The quilting isn't as noticeable as warm & natural batting or the fluffy batting.
