I go to the LQS or for the cheaper fabrics to the market. Also I order a lot in the UK. I order almost never in the US because then I have to pay a lot of shippingfees and here a big amount on taxes! Because UK is also Europe I don't have to bother about taxes at all.
Switzerland lies in Europe but doesn't belong to the European Union, so I think you have to pay tax too even if your fabric is from UK?
