I was asked by a store owner to keep an eye on a certain person who had sticky fingers. It is so easy to slip small items into a pocket or bag. I also have no problem with a clerk checking my ID or for the Walmart greeter to ask to see a receipt or to check my cart. Most are very nice people and we just have a good time. Costco and Sam's has done this for years. If I had something to hide only then might I act offended.
