If you only want it to repair other machines and don't care to spend the money to restore it. I would strip the old veneer off and sand it good and paint it with a good oil base paint. I would probably choose a brown color. Since it looks like the damage part is under the fold down top. I would only paint that whole area not the entire cabinet.
