When my son and DIL had a bumper crop a few years ago they made a lot of puree, measured it out into "pie recipe" portions and froze it. They used bags and froze them flat so it didn't take a lot of space in their freezer. They were quite sad when they used the last bag.
Wanted to add, I have used my slow cooker to make pumpkin butter just like you would apple butter. Easy and a nice treat on toast!
