I feel that way of Singer sewing machines past the late 50's & early 60's, but my understanding of sergers is that they are a different animal. From what I have read is that they are only built at a very limited number of factories and then are name branded after manufacturing. This seems to be a solid built little machine made in Japan and for $30 it will not bankrupt me if it does not pan out.

I have cleaned and oiled it, did a very small adjustment on the tension and it is sewing a beautifully balanced 4-thread overcast seam.
