Thank you everyone for the kind words. I had seen a picture of this pattern, but don't remember where it was. I cut 12 inch pieces of muslin and sewed my strips onto that. Then I cut those blocks into 5.5 x 5.5 inch squares and mismatched 4 of them into blocks that measured 10 1/2 inches unfinished. The white blocks are cut 5 1/2 inches and snowballed with 3 1/2 inch squares on opposite corners, then sewn in units of 4 to create the other 10 1/2 inch block. Mine is 8 x 10 blocks and when I quilted it, I had 4 x 5 block segments with the batting and backing basted together. Once quilted, I joined the units by machine sewing the top, and hand sewing the backing at each joint, and then quilting the pattern into those joined blocks. I hope that makes sense - it is always difficult for me to describe things on paper.
