I would not put sugar in the freezer, it will not spoil at room temperature.
I keep nuts and whole wheat flour in the freezer, as it takes longer to use those up and they could attract insects. I have never had bugs get into the sugar.
I buy sugar and flour in 10 kg (22 pound) bags.
