I recently took a class for crayon quilts. You actually color the design on muslin using Crayola crayons. Then you iron off the wax between paper towels or brown paper. Any embelishments can be made with outline markers, embroidery floss, or whatever.... It's fun.
It's really great, I posted a mini I made on the site called my mini and I have a Mary had a little lamb done like this and than I embroideried around it.
