Default Scrappy batik HST quilt

This started out as totally scrappy, just matching up light and dark batiks. As I progressed I realized I wanted more brights and found I liked the blocks better that were predominantly one color family or a gradated rainbow so it became a controlled scrappy. When I laid this out to sew the blocks I grouped all the warm value diamonds together and it reminded me of a sunset refracting off water. This is for my Ex SIL so I asked my brother if she had a favorite beach in Hawaii and he told me Poipu Beach on Kauai. So the quilt is named "Poipu Sunsets".

I quilted back and forth lines, aka U-turns in the light diamonds and a sunburst in every light square on point.

No pattern. The diamond blocks measure 8" finished and each HST unit measures 2" finished. Quilt measures 64 x 72 so a good size for naps on the sofa.

Techy stuff: Batting Hobbs Polydown
Thread: Superior Highlights in a gold color and magnaglide prewound in white in the bobbin
All FMQ on my Innova, 8 hours quilting time.

The pictures are before I bound it but it is now bound in a red batik that has orange and yellow dots on it.

And here is the back. I think it looks like tiles.
