Default Quilt for my niece made with "Frolic!" Layer Cake

I've got the top done so far.

I took a class on "Layer Cake Mix Recipes" with some of the ladies from my quilt group (and my 6th grade reading teacher was in the class with us!) Using the paper to piece the half square triangles together made it so easy.

I found a cute layer cake with bugs, carrots, bunnies, etc online and thought it would be a great fabric to use in a quilt for my 5-year-old niece. I took the layer cake to her and let her go through the fabric with me to see if she liked it. I heard a lot of "ooooohhhh"s and "perfect!" from her, so it was a good choice. There were two fabrics she didn't like, so I told her I would not use those. She also got to pick the block design from the designs on the front of the book.

I found the background fabric at JoAnn's, and the design colors and shape fit the layer cake perfectly (the design pretty much matches the bunny's tales).

It's been a fun one to put together. I'll finish it off at 64" x 64" so she can use it on her bed, but also use it as a lap/play quilt as she grows.

The colors definitely not in my comfort zone, but it has been a fun one to put together. They are looking at moving, so I think it will be nice for her to put in her (eventual) new bedroom. Hoping to start quilting it tomorrow!
