Mum and I went through a "lampshade phase" a few years ago...we used to wrap the frame in bias binding (you can glue or stitch) then made templates and went from there. You can even use plain fabric and use lace or applique on the "panels", and with a little glue or small stitches apply fringing for that exotic look. Beading can look good too.
