Yes, to the jelly roll race idea for quick and easy. That can be dressed up a bit with shorter pieces and maybe a little square put between strips or cut the ends on the bias to give a bit of variety. But my original thought was to suggest simply using masculine colors or fabrics in a size that works for you and set those on point. There is something about that on point arrangement that changes the look of a quilt that it becomes very interesting and looks like you worked really hard on it. Shirting or plaids? Let your fabric do the work for you!
