Good luck finding the quality percale you bought years ago. The China syndrome has affected our sheets and they are for the most part, thin, rough, and flimsy. I had found Chris Madden sheets at JCPenney a couple of years ago and they were fabulous...of course, discontinued never to be seen again. The Costco sheets are thin, have ripped and aren't soft.
The best I've found are by a company called Brooklinen and the set I bought required that I use it and wash it about 8 times before it softened up enough to compare to the Chris Madden's. I buy only 100% cotton and thread count is deceptive. Higher thread count doesn't necessarily mean better sheets...some of those high counts are rough! I also don't believe in taking out a second mortgage for a sheet set (king) so I shop at around the $100 mark for a set...I may just not be able to afford what I'm looking for but I won't know because I'm not in the $200 and up group. Would love to hear other's thoughts on this!
