There's a book called 'We Love Color -- 16 Iconic Quilt Designers Create with Kona Solids.' Maybe they would have it at your library. The designs are very modern.
I would suggest the 'Crumbs' pattern by Me and My Sister. I've seen a version of that done in solids on Pinterest that is stunning.
