I'm buying and cutting and sewing the fabric here, making the entire pillow cases here and sending them to the US to my friend to sell. I have a sewing machine now and may try to sew everything myself as I know exactly what I want to accomplish, have many tutorials recommended here and videos I've watched before as well. I am also working with local seamstresses but as they have no straight-sewing experience (no patchwork or quilt) it's very new to them and I've looked for three or four so far with no success. I'm not making a lot of volume, really, just about 25 to start with and see if there is a market for this beautiful colorful ethnic product. It's part of Congolese culture that I'm really proud of and would love to see it in people's houses. It's a private endeavour, I'm not part of an organization but at the top of my mind is skill-building and if I can help local tailors to gain a new marketable skill, that would make me so happy. But of course I have to fully understand it first.
