Default Singer 128k Hand Crank follow-up

This is a follow up to my earlier post.
Singer 128k hand crank - sewing problem

Finally, the machine has been cleaned, oiled and polished - looks beautiful.

The problem with the needle not inserting correctly has been sorted (gunk).
The bobbin thread snapping when trying to remove fabric has been sorted (cleaning the release pin behind the presser foot lifter and cleaning the tension disks seemed to do the trick).

The stitch quality is fab however... dang, the long shuttle is noisy and seems a bit loose. When there is no shuttle in and you turn the wheel, the machine is whisper quiet, put the shuttle in and sew it clanks and rattles. When I had the plate off to see what was happening it the shuttle seems to lift then the top thread engages. Is this noise to be expected? I have put a piece of cotton crochet yarn and sewing machine oil in the little "well" as per the youtube guidance by Lizzie Lenard.

I am concerned about damaging the shuttle and I want to piece my next scrappy quilt on it so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
