Why didn't you use a thread stand? They can be purchased for $10 for a simple one to around $20 for a deluxe type from Superior Threads. I use one for almost all thread whether stacked or cross wound. It keeps the thread from twisting and feeds consistently. You should always use one with invisible thread.
