We go camping in Yosemite quite often and bears are a a fact of life and it never ceases to amaze me how people leave food in their cars or out at the campsite. We have seen people try to pet the bears. You have to put anything that has the smell of anything into a bear box. They rip doors off cars, tear into tents, and a cooler is no match for a bear of any size.
