I lift it when I begin and now it stays up and connects to the wheel. Before I would lift it and it would go down so I had to hold it up. Sorry for the confusion. Sewing medium leather is fine. Thanks for letting me know about the thick leather. I will sew thick leather by hand. Thanks again for all the help.
