I agree with not quilting around the individual patches. I should have clarified that I was talking about free motion sewing around the individual patches before the quilt is sandwiched. That has worked for me in the past when I didn’t want to put tulle on the surface to hold the loose edges as I quilted. I do not use a stabilizer under my piece at this step since the collaged pieces are on fabric which acts as the stabilizer.
