The pedal had been taken off by two screws and it actuates the arm inside. Part of the pedal is bent and one can see it in the last picture on the left end. It appears that the screws on the side actually hold the inside mechanism in place. The perforated metal needs to come off, but the circular clips are bent through both the solid an perforated metal casings.
