I find a hopping foot very distracting and like the foot that doesn't move up and down for FMQ. It is hard to let go of looking where the needle is but once you master that and look to where you are going you'll be a better FMQ and be less likely to work yourself into a corner. Practice looking ahead until you get used to it. Just like driving you don't look to where the car is but rather ahead where you're going.
