Just wanted to add that if you can get to one of the bigger quilt shows, they often have appraisers available. In Dallas the cost was about $45, as I recall from reading the brochure. I believe you had to register in advance to have an appraisal done at the show. The quilt museums, such as the ones in Lincoln, Nebraska or Paducah, Kentucky, probably also have information about where you could get a quilt appraised. It would be very interesting to find out more about your very unusual quilt. Also, if you have the name of the person whose estate this came from, that might be a hint to its provenance (but not necessarily, of course). I'm curious: What's on the back?
