A quick Google search for "9in finished disappearing 9 patch block" brought me to
this blog which gives a list of starting and finished sizes plus the formula for figuring out what size to cut depending on if you want finished size or starting block.
Seems a 9" block is difficult, so you may want to do 8.5 or 10.
