I usually try and find an idea from the fabrics if the person who owns the quilt doesn't have idea. Most log cabins are very busy and any all over will give really good texture to the quilt. If there are leaves in the fabric some leaf panto will work. Florals area easy too. If for a man, I try swirls or boxes or linear designs.
