There were lemons to be sure, but many of the TnS's were very good machines and continue to be good machines. The gears lasted 50-60 years, not bad for a piece of plastic under load all the time. There are replacement gears if someone loves their machine enough to keep it going. The replacements will last at least as long as the originals, there are metal replacements for some of them. But yes, some of them deserve nothing more than a sledge hammer. I've seen it happen.
