I am so lucky - I have a large "safety pin" that my mother forgot was attached to her swimsuit. They were used as the reminder of what basket a person's street clothes were in at a swimming pool she frequented in the 1930's-1940's. Whe she took it back they said to just keep it because they had already replaced it. She was charged $1.00 for a replacement fee which she was happy to pay because she really liked the pin. The safety pin is about 5" in length and has a number tag attached to it. It is not as large as the decorative ones being sold today but sure has history and memories attached to it for me.
