Fork pins can be a great help when matching up seams. Pricey but well worth it to me to get seams that match.
The fork pins made me remember another good tip. I double pin where the seams join. I line up the two seams and "lock" them in place, the put one pin on each side of the joining seams. I think it's the same idea with using the fork pins, but I just use regular, flower pins. The two pins really help hold things in place.
