Using a spool cap works to keep the thread away from the end of the spool.

C&C thread compared to other quality threads is more expensive per yard. If you really like C&C then of course that is not an issue. The spool of C&C is less expensive but look at the yardage on the spool and compare the price. I am a comparison shopper and have never found C&C thread to be less expensive per yard compared to other quality brands.
