If you would like to try several designs without sewing them first, you can always first draw the design you are considering on a plastic sleeve protector laid over your block. I use dry erase markers for this, but you have to be
very careful not to get any of that on your fabric. Any clear plastic works for this, & you can try lots of different things before committing.
