I was wondering about using them as the centre of a table runner. Whether I could satin stitch around it and give it some 3-d effect, but I think you'd have to do them with extremely light fuseable for that.

Would they even need a fusible for this? I see the fusible not only holding the folds, but giving some stablilty. You could cut 1/2" strips of fusible and iron it to the perimeter of the square and that would hold the folds in place. Just thinking out loud here!
