Yes, do this. Can you take the front end cover off? I have 2 Brother machines that sometimes freeze and it is always thread wrapped in the bearing inside--the take-up mechanism...the only way to reach is to remove a part of the front cover. Then it is a chore to carefully unwind with tweezers. A faulty design, but I love my machines.
