I cut all the strips 1.5" for a finished 1" log. I learned to make log cabin quilts from Judy Martin's Log Cabin Quilt Book. She gives great instructions for how to select your fabric, cutting, organizing, stitching the blocks, and assembling. The book also has a number of original log cabin-based quilt designs.
