This is almost how I quilted the corners, except I started the line below the corner points of the geese and went down to the white outer point. I do think you need quilting in the outer border, especially if this is a baby quilt, which will get a lot of washing. You could do straight lines as NativeTexan showed ... but you wouldn't have to do it so densely. Somthing like this:
