I did use batting on this but I think if I ever make another one, it won't be any batting. It is thick and heavy enough already.

I'm sure it took quite a bit of thread too and its pretty heavy I suspect. Looks like you added some sort of batting behind the red checked fabrics. Mine won't be quite a large as yours as its for a teenage boy in our congregation. Again, great job and has me thinking again on mine.
