What I didn't expect was the price- 23.50. For some reason I thought it was a lot cheaper. And I gave him a 5.00 tip, which I wanted to do. So it was almost 30.00
I only took it one way.

That sounds about right. I have a friend that is an Uber driver. I usually avoid it as it does add up but it is a great way to go especially if you live far away from bus stops. I also try and combine Uber rides with an other person, if we need to be at the same place, so as to share the cost.
