It sounds a bit odd, but Profoot Heel Rescue is great all over. I like Gold Bond okay, but DH is allergic to it, at least the version for men. So it's possible that you are having a problem from the hand cream and not just the dry conditions.
Editing to add that while we're on this subject, I feel compelled to mention that some lip balms are actually designed to be "addictive". If you check the ingredient label and see alum, steer clear of that. It's an astringent. Your lips will never heal while you use that. We discovered this when our kids were in marching band in high school and some band members were using these products constantly. I don't know if the hand cream manufacturers are as sneaky as that, but it's a good idea to read the ingredients and look up what different chemicals are before putting them on your body.
