I would begin by telling her to get some good sewing machine oil, saturate all the moving areas of the dials, without getting any on the belt. Then take a hair dryer and get the bearing surfaces good and hot, while trying to move the dials, and the shaft that pivots to follow the cams. These have great tight tolerances and gum up over time. This has gotten any of my Pfaffs operating great, including my 230.
