I cannot think of any reason why it would not be a great finish in lots of applications. For instance, I think it would be especially good for scallops or other non-straignt line edges. Typical binding is hand stitched on the back; so, why not a facing. I would turn the outside edge of the facing under 1/4 inch and press or stitch in order to be able to finish the back so it is hidden.
