Well the happy print I just picked up was decided to be too primary, I have several different backs and other fabrics to donate to the project so will have a net loss in total yardage even as the new one goes in the box. We are going to take 9-patches another member has in suitable colorways and put on wonky twisting borders around them. We should be able to put together the top in time for Tuesday group, so the one quilter can take the project and quilt it on her long arm.
I have my purple project in kit form and ready to sew. Man, I can appreciate kits and wish I could afford them and didn't already have a room full of fabric! But first I need to finish up the Not Quite Y2K top. I'm putting together the blocks into rows so I should have it done this week. With this border of three rows of the Y2K squares, the easy way to do the borders was attach them to the blocks. I think the natural inclination is to put together the blocks first and then add the border, but I have found that long skinny unwieldy strips are not ideal to my success. So when I use sashing between blocks, for example, I prefer to put them on in Ls around the blocks instead of long skinny sashing row to long block row... but a picture is worth a thousand words and my words are getting confusing so I took this picture as I've been piecing the blocks/borders together.
PS: As I was putting the blocks together I found one block did indeed end up with 2 identical pieces of fabric. Darn! LOL, oh well... it took me this long to notice, no one else ever will.
