Grats on passing up that email, you two!
I have not been finding much at the thrift stores the last couple of weeks. On the way home from my Mom's I checked out my local St Vincent's and made a couple of scores. One is a UFO/WIP, looks to me like they shortened a twin top but who knows... Anyway, the fabrics are lovely and fairly good sized but the workmanship is poor, for $1.99 it was worth it for the fabric even though I'm going to pick the seams out (huge seams, like 1/2-3/4", hope the folds come out). Also picked up a piece of what I think is 1950s vintage, has a sort of abstract football?? game border print on black background with a variety of happy/angry faces in the stands. Super cool, maybe two+ yards for $1.99.
There was also a piece I didn't buy of what I think was 60s, maybe it was 50s, what I would call "Dutch Colonial" designs. I think it would be considered kettle cloth, very slightly heavier and coarser weave than quilting cottons. Multiple yards of white background with blue and brown designs, I think they would be kitchen curtains. Back in my collecting vintage fabric days I would have snatched that sucker up so I'm feeling reasonably virtuous that I didn't succumb to that temptation. There were also some large bags of scraps that were even on tag day that I passed up, too much non-quilting stuff or else I would have fallen...
Sewing-wise I trimmed off the triangles from the seams of my first purple units at small group. While I was at my Mom's I pressed the seams and then pinned all of the border and about half the block units to the correct white pieces until I ran out of pins. So goal for the rest of this week is to sew all those units together and then finish up this stage on the remaining blocks. Will be a super fast project once I'm not holding up and double checking every piece of the white-on-white. I found I didn't turn my fabric over correctly and did sew a total of four pieces of the white-on-white wrong side up (two each of the same white in two different purple blocks), all the other pieces seem to be fine and the design was strong enough that I don't think it will be obvious. Going to leave it in as is.
