the email from threadloom is approved and sent on behalf of the QB.
they are, indeed, trying a new method and format which - if successful - will replace the old digest emails.
the survey associated to this is to evaluate your reactions to it and to "teach" the selection algorithm to eventually select those posts most likely to appeal to the widest "slice of the subscriber pie."
as is the case with virtually all things of this type, the default will be to subscribe.
if it doesn't interest you, simply make sure to clear that so you don't accidentally subscribe.
That was the one I received too, but to do the survey I needed to sign into a Google account. I thought that was odd.
