Default Advice on rewiring a Singer 206k

Hello, everyone. I'm new to this forum but excited to have discovered it. Some years ago I developed a passion for sewing machines. I'd let it get the best of me if I had the space, but fortunately don't.
My daughter, who doesn't sew but might start, recently bought a Singer 206k from a thrift store because she loved how it looks and just wanted to own it. Of course it has problems which I, of course, want to fix. They are electrical. The machine seems to be in fairly good mechanical shape.
Do any of you have advice on replacing all of the wiring, and probably the light whose base is cracked? Am I safe just going to a website that sells vintage machine parts and ordering whatever fits a 206k, or is this more complicated than that? The machine has a foot control (with a big capacitor inside) whose condition I don't know yet. Wiring insulation on almost all wiring is cracked and missing. I don't know where to start. Thank you for any advice.
